ZOAR — Struggling Newcomerstown High continues to search for the elusive first win following a lopsided 47-6 setback to host Tuscarawas Valley in Inter-Valley Conference action Friday night.
With the road loss, Coach Dirk Gadd’s Trojans slip to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in IVC play.
Tusky Valley (3-3, 2-1 IVC) jumped in front 14-0 after the first quarter with a pair of long touchdown runs. Tristan Tesch opened the scoring with a 45-yard sprint to the end zone, followed by Isaiah Schlegel who ripped off a 33-yard TD run.
By halftime, the host Trojans had extended its advantage out to 27-0 with a pair of second stanza scores — a five-yard run by Tesch and a one-yard run by Noah Love.
Love scored again in the third quarter on an eight-yard run to make it 34-0.
Newcomerstown was able to avoid the shutout with a touchdown early in the final period when Trojans’ QB Gavin Weaver connected with junior Chase Bryant for a long 90-yard TD strike make it 34-6 with 11:38 left in the IVC match-up.
The hosts tallied twice more on a 45-yard interception return by Luke Herron and a 12-yard run by Nelson to finish it off.
Weaver completed 4-of-12 passing attempts for 92 yards, while Bryant led the NHS ground game with 25 yards on seven carries.
Tusky Valley rolled up a whopping 415 yards on the ground in the victory, with Tesch pacing the winners with 125 yards rushing on nine carries with a pair of TDs on the ground. Schlegel chipped in with 106 yards on 17 attempts with a touchdown.
