Winter sports

(Date change) The Newcomerstown Winter Sports meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 6:30 p.m. Any winter athlete and their parent need to attend. If the athlete played a fall sport they do not need to arrive until 7:15 p.m. Those unable to attend need to contact Athletic Director Mark Wolff at 740-498-5111, extension 11176, to make arrangements for materials covered at this meeting.

Trick or Treat

The Newcomerstown Merchants’ annual Trick or Treat event will be from 3:30-5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26. In addition, the Newcomerstown Public Library is offering space for a business "Trunk or Treat" at the same time, providing an opportunity to be involved for area businesses that may otherwise not be able to take part. Any business, organization or church that would like to take part in the Trunk or Treat should contact Library Director Cody Addy by email,, or by calling 740-498-8828. Space is limited.

Trick or Treat

Riverside Manor and Riverside Apartments will be having Trick or Treat from 3-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Belgium Mission Sale

On Saturday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Victory Assembly of God Church, 311 S. College St., Newcomerstown, is having an "Inside Sale" to help fund the Belgium Missions trip. The sale will be in the Fellowship Hall entrance in back of the church. There will be many miscellaneous items for sale and reasonably priced. Area residents are invited to come and browse.

Rose Day Sale

The Newcomerstown Lions Club Rose Day Sale is now taking orders. A dozen roses are $20 and mail orders are $28. The delivery date is Saturday, Nov. 10. To place an order, call Carol at (740) 498-5406.


WEST LAFAYETTE — There will be a revival with Evangelist Kenny Evans from Pigeon Forge, TN, at First Baptist Church of West Lafayette, 688 E. Main St. The schedule is: Oct. 22 - 7 p.m;, Oct. 23 - 7 p.m.; and Oct. 24 - 5 p.m. with a lasagna dinner at 7 p.m. and a concert with Kenny Evans from "The American Oldies Show," Pigeon Forge, TN. Musical program

"A Celebration of the Music of Newcomerstown native Manuel Yingling." will take place on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 121 S. College St., Newcomerstown. A roast beef dinner at a cost of $12. will start at 6 p.m. with a free concert to follow at 7 p.m. To get a dinner ticket, call at the Newcomerstown Museum, 740-498-7735. The menu includes roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad, roll, dessert, and a drink. Performers for the concert will include Main Street Brass and the Tubafours with Tim Marlatt playing the organ, accompanying Ron Geese. Yingling memorabilia will be displayed with organizers saying, "Wait till you see his trombone – beautiful!"

Harvest Fest

Families are invited to come enjoy a Harvest Fest on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 6:30 p.m. at Chili Crossroads Bible Church, 29445 County Road 10, Fresno. The free event includes a candy hunt, games, bonfire and hot dog roast. Everyone is welcome.

Donkey Ball

The Newcomerstown Track Team will again be hosting a donkey basketball game at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Newcomerstown High School. This game is a fundraiser for the track program. Tickets are available to purchase from any track student or from Coach Don Stevens at Newcomerstown Middle School. Ticket prices are $6 in advance or $8 at the door the night of the game. Honor service

Chili Church officials said the church is profoundly grateful for all the veterans who’ve served our country and all the wonderful first responders who do such a great job helping the community. The church will honor these great people in a service Sunday, Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Chili Crossroads Bible Church 29445 County Road 10 Fresno. The public is invited and all are welcome.

Holiday Bazaar

The West Union United Methodist Women’s Fellowship will host its annual "Holiday Bazaar" on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the church basement. There will be crafts and gift items, a bake sale and a donation-only food stand. The church is located at 13679 Gilmore Road on Tuscarawas County Road 10 between Gilmore and Peoli.

Art on display

WEST LAFAYETTE — Marie Kungling will be sharing her art during the month of October at the West Lafayette Branch Library. Marie is a senior art student at the Columbus College of Art and design, majoring in illustrations of Color and Design. The Library is open Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Craft Show

The 28th annual Christmas in the Village Craft Show will be Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., 530 S. College St., the Tri-County Ambulance Building in Newcomerstown. The event is sponsored by Tri-County Auxiliary, which also has the lunch stand. Organizers said it was "another full house this year. All the crafters you are used to seeing, plus a few new ones. Lots of handmade items to choose from. This year we will have beadwork, leather purses, cow milk soap, crocheted items, wreathes, centerpieces, wood, canvas, greeting cards, sock animals, handmade jewelry, stained glass, lighted garlands, signs, decals, native wildlife items, embroidery, stove towels." Faith event

The Isleta United Methodist Church, 58608 Co. Road 9, Newcomerstown, is sponsoring a "Faith, Fun, Fellowship" event on Saturday, Nov. 3. The free event is for women only in "A woman’s encouragement day of faith," with speakers, music and prayer. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. and the program is from 9 a.m. to noon. The Newcomerstown High School Class of 1960 will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at noon at Uncle Primo's, 435 Minnich Ave., New Philadelphia.

Bluegrass music

The Chestnut Hill Band will perform bluegrass music at ARTSNCT on Friday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. Donations will be taken at the door.
