For Veterans Day this year, members of American Legion Post 431, VFW Post 3303, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 532 and the Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard, along with several members of the Quilting Bees quilting group presented patriotic themed lap quilts to veterans who reside at Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Veteran Denny Ross said, "We try to visit the veterans here at the nursing home at least a couple of times a year to let them know they are appreciated and not forgotten. And we usually try to present them with something to show we care. Sometimes it’s just cards or homemade cookies and candies or a new veteran-themed t-shirt but this year, we asked the ladies of the Quilting Bees if they would be willing to make some quilts and they didn’t hesitate to take on that job. We appreciate and thank them for helping us honor these veterans with their ‘Quilts for Veterans’ and we gave out 17 quilts.
"We would like to thank Riverside Manor for allowing us to come in and be with the veterans on different occasions and to Beth Taylor of Riverside Manor and all who help her when we come in," Ross said.
After the quilts were presented, there was a time of visiting, with cake and ice cream.
