Once again we are at the time of year set aside to give thanks for the blessings of God. Though the world may not agree, I know the blessings I enjoyed today, yesterday and throughout my life have all come from God.
As I thought of God, and the many blessings He provides I was reminded of two very special verses in scripture which speak of giving thanks to God. 1Chronicles 16:34 says, O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever. This verse then is repeated several places throughout scripture. Then in 1Thessalonians 5:18 I read, In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Even as I thank the clerk for my change, and the waitress for her service, I thank God for all that He gives.
How can I even begin to count or list all that God does for me? Salvation would be at the top of my list. I thank Him, too, for church, freedom, peace, joy, love, Bibles, family, friends, health, food, safety, shelter, jobs, and answered prayer. I could add clothes, shoes, books, heat, rain, sunshine, stars, phones, the cattle in the fields and the cars on the road. To know God’s presence and see souls saved are blessings beyond words. I thank Him for the unspoken details of so many answered prayers. How many needs have been filled that still deserve a meaningful thanks? I must thank Him for a good harvest and the promise of springs return with an opportunity to plant again. For the things that I have neglected or forgotten to mention, I thank Him.
In all this, the greatest blessings I know are God and His love.
