The Tuscarawas Dance Arts Center, under the direction of Shelly Beitzel, is preparing for the 26th annual production of its Nutcracker Ballet.
The performance will be held at the Kent State Performing Arts Center in New Philadelphia at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 6, 7 and 8 and at 2 p.m. Dec. 9.
This year’s Sugar Plum Fairy will be danced by Chloe Contini, a senior at Dover High School, and Bethany Goddard, a senior at New Philadelphia High School.
Sharing in the role as Clara are New Philadelphia senior Emma Stokey and New Philadelphia junior Alexis Schupbach. Dover seniors Becca Duncan and Carolina Kapper will share the role as Dew Drop. Also featured are Ella Stewart and Andarah Yoder as the Snow Queen and Lauren Yoder and Emili Edwards will share the role as the Arabian.
The Flute Dance will be shared by Emma Shamel, Emily Huprich, Lauren Armstrong and Summer Gursal. Returning as the Prince is senior Spencer Stanley and Brody Horn, a junior of New Philadelphia High School, will be the Cavalier. Many of the younger cast members are excited to be learning new roles in this year’s performance.
There will be live musical entertainment starting a half hour before each performance. Thursday and Friday performances will feature Jazz music with Bob Ventre, Jack Steward and Clint Alguire. On Saturday the New Philadelphia High School Delphian Chorale will perform, and on Sunday Rick Michel will play the piano.
