Bridge closed

Beginning Wednesday, Dec. 12, the SR 541 bridge over SR 16 will be closed to traffic to begin pouring the bridge deck. The closure will be between Second Street and the SR 16 eastbound ramps. All ramps at the interchange will remain open during the closure. Estimated re-open to traffic: Monday, Dec. 17, weather permitting.

Alumni Basketball

The Newcomerstown High School Class of 2020 is hosting the sixth annual Alumni Basketball Game on Friday, Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the NHS gym. Former NHS basketball players should contact Rachael Bowers at to sign up to play. The cost is $5 for spectator tickets.

Good News

St. Paul Lutheran Church in Newcomerstown is planning "Good News Sundays" in December. There are plans for the whole family starting at 9:15 a.m. for every Sunday in December. There will be activities for kids and an adult gathering to hear good stories of how Jesus works in the lives of people today. On the final Sunday, Dec. 23, the church will host the "Best Birthday Party for Jesus" at 9:15 a.m. Stay for worship at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome. Christmas program

Christ United Methodist Church will present "Hope: A Gospel Christmas Celebration" at 7 p.m. on Dec. 16 in the River of Life Community Center. Written by Joel Raney, the program will feature the church’s Chancel Choir, dancers and character actors. Refreshments will follow in the Fellowship Hall.

Class of 1956

The Newcomerstown High School Class of 1956 will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at T J’s Restaurant in Stonecreek at noon. The Wednesday special is taco salad. If anyone wants taco salad contact Treva Gaskill at 740 498-7719 with a request no later than two days before the meeting.

Class of 1958

The Newcomerstown High School Class of 1958 will have lunch at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at Unusual Junction, US Rt.36, West Lafayette.

Class of 1969

The Newcomerstown High School Class of 1969 will hold its 50th year reunion at Raven’s Glenn Winery, 56183 County Road 143, West Lafayette, (Off Route 36) on August 17, 2019. Christmas Eve Eve

Art on display

The West Lafayette Library featured artist during December will be David Snyder, a Coshocton County resident. He will be sharing his paintings done in acrylic, watercolor or ink, of the Willowbrook coal tipple and barns of Ohio in Coshocton, Holmes and Muskingum counties. When Dave isn’t painting you can find him at the Warsaw Museum, where he’s been curator for 15 years. The library is open Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The newly formed Bible Fellowship Church meeting at the River Greens Golf Course banquet hall for a refreshing new worship experience. Services: Sunday at 10 a.m. Prayer Time and Bible Study in Acts; Sunday at noon, Fellowship Dinner; Sunday at 1 p.m., Bible Study in Psalms; Wednesday at 7 p.m., Bible Study in Revelation. All services are led by Pastor Jim F.
