SALEM TOWNSHIP — Joanna Sellards of Newcomerstown died early Friday from injuries suffered in a crash on Interstate 77 on Thursday morning, according to the New Philadelphia post of the State Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred north of Newcomerstown at 11:26 a.m. in the right northbound lane about a mile north of U.S. Route 36.
Sellards, 24, of 444 Tuscarawas Ave., hit the back of a semi tractor-trailer driven by Dana Dow, 40, of Houston, Texas, according to a press release from Sgt. Robert Simone.
The Newcomerstown Fire Department extracted Sellards from her sedan. Tri-County EMS took her to Summa Akron City Hospital.
Dow was not injured.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, according to the patrol. Both drivers used seat belts.
