A meteorologist at a Detroit television station who had been off the air for several weeks after having eye surgery has taken her own life, the station said Thursday.
Jessica Starr, 35, a native of southeastern Michigan, had been with WJBK-TV since 2012.
The station said it learned of the suicide Wednesday night.
“All of us here at FOX 2 are in deep shock and cannot believe that such a wonderful, bright and intelligent individual will no longer be with us,” the station wrote in an online statement.
In October, Starr underwent eye surgery, according to her Facebook page. She had not been on the air since that time.
Last month, she posted a video on Facebook about her frustration with recovery, and in her last social media post on Nov. 14, which appeared on both Facebook and Twitter, she wrote, “Yesterday was a struggle for me. I really wanted to come back but need more time to recover. Please keep me in your thoughts during this challenging time.”
