Newcomerstown Middle School held its annual Jump-a-Thon for the American Heart Association on Friday, Feb. 15. Students participated in different fitness challenges and activities during their "Related Arts" classes. Along with jumping rope and double dutch, students did wall jumps, vertical jumps, jumping jacks, broad jump, side to side, and front to back. The students had a great time trying to outjump their classmates. Students also participated in some fun dress up days ahead of the event. The students and staff raised $1029.60 with 6th grader Abby Cool raising $209 as the top fundraiser. The 6th graders were the top fundraising grade level as well. Shown in this photo are Abby Cool (center), surrounded by other top fundraisers for this event, (l-r) Javen Fitch with $75, Zoey Mathews with $55, Abby Cool, Grant Buckohr with $87, and Dakota Offman, with $35. School officials said, "Thanks to everyone who donated any amount of money at all to this very worthy cause." The sample check is made out for $200 but there was actually $209 donated in Abby's name.
