NEW PHILADELPHIA — Numerous Buckeye Career Center students are advancing to state career and technical student organization competitions.
The following students competed at the HOSA Future Health Professionals regional competition recently at Canton South High School and are moving on to the HOSA Ohio State Leadership Conference April 9-10th in Columbus.
The winners include: Medical Spelling: 1st place – Jeffrey Reed (Pharmacy Tech/New Phila); Medical Terminology: 3rd place- Hayleigh Scheufler (Intro to Nursing/Hiland); Nutrition: 1st place – Katelyn Slone (Exercise Science/Strasburg), and 3rd place – Jeremiah Roach (Exercise Science/ Conotton Valley); Human Growth & Development Knowledge Test: 3rd place – Haleigh Pompey (Intro to Nursing/New Phila); Nursing Assisting: 2nd place – Katelyn Maurer (Intro to Nursing/Garaway); Physical Therapy: 3rd place – Michaela Dumont (Exercise Science/Claymont); CPR/1st Aid: 2nd place – Kim Halsey (Exercise Science/Newcomerstown), and Jakob Rosenbohm (Exercise Science/Conotton Valley); Epidemiology: 1st place – Amber Jones (Exercise Science/Strasburg) and 2nd place – Alex Williams (Exercise Science/Tuscarawas Valley); Public Health: 2nd place team – Sasha Hupp (Intro to Nursing/Claymont), Emilee Rouse (Intro to Nursing/Conotton Valley), and MaKayla Weitbrecht (Intro to Nursing); Interviewing Skills: 2nd place – Zoie Slutz (Medical Assisting/Conotton Valley); Researched Persuasive Speaking: 2nd place – Sydney Zinkon (Exercise Science/Ridgewood) ; Biomedical Debate: 3rd place team – Shayla Baker (Intro to Nursing/Indian Valley), Marque Dorsey (Intro to Nursing/Tuscarawas Valley), and Michaela Poole (Intro to Nursing/Claymont); HOSA Bowl: 2nd place team – Iris Austin (Intro to Nursing/New Philadelphia), Chloe Jeffers (Intro to Nursing/New Philadelphia), and Natashia Masters (Pharmacy Technician/New Phila). Also competing at state are Josh Shaffer (Exercise Science/New Philadelphia), Joanna Hammel (Exercise Science/Tuscarawas Valley), Maleah Stansbery (Exercise Science/Indian Valley) in HealthCare Issues Exam.
Members of Buckeye Career Center’s Business Professionals of America club have qualified for the state BPA conference. The state competition will be March 14 in Columbus.
Qualifiers from BCC main campus include: Basic Office Systems & Procedures: 1st place - Alaina Thompson (Business & Marketing); Intermediate Word Processing: 1st place - Dani Metz (Business & Marketing/Carrollton); Personal Finance: 1st place - Aden Smith (Business & Marketing); Presentation Management Team: 1st place - Smith, Thompson, Metz, Brian Shurtz (Business & Marketing/Newcomerstown), and Braden Caldwell (Business & Marketing/Conotton Valley); PC Hardware and Troubleshooting: 1st place - Ian Pompey (Computer Technology/Dover), 2nd place: David Crawley (Computer Technology/Dover); Computer Networking: 1st place – Chris Blair (Computer Technology/Strasburg); System Administration with Microsoft: 1st place – Alex Mann (Computer Technology/Claymont); Network Administration with Cisco: 1st place – Marcus Andreas (Computer Technology/Strasburg), Network Design Team: 1st place - Aaron Miller (Computer Technology/New Philadelphia), Nathan Corell (Computer Technology/Claymont), and Michael Koerber (Computer Technology/New Philadelphia).
Members of BPA from the East Holmes Business Academy also competing at state include: Fundamental Word Processing: 1st place - Eric Yoder; Integrated Office Applications: 1st place - Jessica Montanez; Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications: 1st place - Grace Miller; Administrative Support Team: 1st place - Cheryl Kurtz, Marlene Kurtz, Sara Schlabach, and Kara Troyer; Financial Analyst Team: 1st place - Diane Beachy, Heidi Beachy, and Karen Miller; Small Business Management Team: 1st place - Josiah Miller, Jay Hershberger, David Mast, and Bryson Troyer; Parliamentary Procedure Team: 1st place - Abe Hershberger, Grace Miller, Kerri Miller, Lorraine Miller, MaryBeth Miller, Eric Yoder, Joshua Yoder, and Karlin Yoder.
Students enrolled in BCC’s accounting class at Garaway High School will also represent BPA on the state level. Those students include: Payroll Accounting: 1st place - Eric Gordon and 2nd place - Grace Gingerich; Fundamental Accounting: 4th place - Derick Gillette; Banking and Finance: 2nd place - Erik Miller; Banking and Finance: 1st place – Bethany Rider; and Personal Financial Management: 2nd place - Ian Scott.
