DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man who pleaded guilty to shooting and killing his adult son has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
Montgomery County’s prosecutor said in a release that 57-year-old Earl Shingleton was sentenced Wednesday in Dayton. He had pleaded guilty this month to one count of murder in the death of his 29-year-old son, Kevin Johnson.
The statement by Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. said Shingleton and his son had an altercation at their Dayton home in February and Shingleton retrieved a rifle from his bedroom and shot Johnson.
The sentence requires Shingleton to serve at least 15 years in prison before he would be eligible for parole consideration.
A message seeking comment was left at the office of Shingleton’s public defender.
