As befitting its namesake, a former Cy Young Award winner will be the guest of honor at the 2019 Cy Young Festival in Newcomerstown, June 21-22-23.

Randy Jones carried the nickname "Junkman" while pitching in the National League for the San Diego Padres and the New York Mets. A left-hander, Jones won the Cy Young Award in 1976 with the Padres with a record of 22-14 and an earned run average of 2.74. His career totals include 1,933 innings pitched, a career ERA of 3.42 and 735 strike-outs.

Jones will headline a luncheon at the Laborers Local Hall 134, 150 N. River St., the corner of River and Main streets in Newcomerstown on Saturday, June 22. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and lunch is at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for kids under 12. Reservations can be made by calling 740-498-4545 or emailing chaney.janet8@gmail.com.

Five full-size, genuine Louisville Sluggers wood bats will be auctioned off at this year’s luncheon. Each bat is numbered one through five and engraved with festival name, date, "Home of Cy Young" and will be signed by Jones. In addition to being the guest speaker at the luncheon, Jones will make an appearance at the Cy Young Run on Saturday morning, June 22, and at Cy Young’s gravesite following the run. He will serve as Grand Parade Marshall Saturday evening at 6 p.m. After the parade, Jones will sign autographs at the Olde Main Street Museum.

The festival kicks off Friday evening, June 21, and will culminate with a vintage baseball game and a car show on Sunday, June 23.

The Cy Young Festival Parade will line-up beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, and participants are urged to use a baseball theme. The parade will start on Oak Street near Newcomerstown High School and travel down River Street to Church Street, east to College Street, north on College to Main Street. The vintage baseball tournament will have its first pitch at 8 a.m. on Sunday, June 23, at Cy Young Park. The local Newcomerstown Cyclones will take on the Canal Dover Redlegs, the Mohican Rivermen and the Whiskey Island Shamrocks. Teams will be using the same baseball rules that were used during the days of the Civil War.

There will also be a cornhole tournament beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 21, using official rules. 

Friday, June 21

5 p.m. - Opening ceremonies on Canal Street; crowning of the queens and courts; concessions open.

6 p.m. - Cornhole tournament opens; Mike Hoskins to perform on the Canal Street stage.

8 p.m. - Chestnut Hill Bluegrass Band on the Canal Street stage.

Saturday, June 22

7:15 a.m. - Cy Young Run registration at Cy Young Park.

8 a.m. - Cy Young Run, followed by Randy Jones visiting the gravesite of Cy Young at the Peoli Cemetery.

11:30 a.m. - Doors open for luncheon at Laborers Union 134 at the corner of State and River streets, lunch is at noon, call 740-498-4545 for reservations; Queens Luncheon to follow at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Noon - Tents and concessions open.

12-2 p.m. - ArtsNCT Talent Show.

4:30 p.m. - Parade line-up begins at Newcomerstown High School.

6 p.m. - Parade begins.

6:45 p.m. - Introduction of Festival royalty, Canal Street stage.

7 p.m. - Randy Jones signing autographs at the Olde Main Street Museum, free and open to the public; New Towne Cloggers at the Canal Street stage.

8-11 p.m. - The Adam Calvert Band takes the stage with their high energy country/rock show at the Canal Street stage.

Sunday, June 23

8 a.m. - Vintage baseball tournament, Cy Young Park.

Noon - Concessions open.

1 p.m. - Registration for Car Show begins on Main Street.

3 p.m. - Pet Show at the Canal Street stage; registration for Car Show ends.

5 p.m. - Car Show awards ceremony; Festival ends.
