The community extends its sympathy to the family of Ethel Cross, 87, of Moorefield, who died Saturday.

Jamie and Lesley Phillips held a surprise 50th anniversary party for his parents Ronnie and Diana Phillips on Aug. 18th at the Washington Township Fire Hall in Tippecanoe.

Memorial golf outing

The 12th and Final Diane Arnold Memorial Golf Outing was held June 15, at Willandale Golf Club in Sugarcreek. The event had the biggest turnout of any year with 28 teams and 112 golfers participating.

The winning team this year was the Earl Miller team from Sugarcreek with a score of -13 under par. Two teams tied for 2nd place at -12 under par. They were the team of JT, Cory, and Jim Cunningham, and Adam Bear from the Freeport area and the team of Steve Longo, Tom Jones, Andrew Burrell, and Bill Costello from the Dover area.

Event sponsors included Rick’s Motor Sales, of Dover, and Ryan Lundenberger, of Great Lakes Brewing Co. Local company hole sponsors included Wellstone Winery, Rhine Oil, Milleson Insurance Agency, Freeport Sportsman Club, Jacobs Vanaman Insurance Agency, Stocker Concrete, Be Safe Fire, Schwartz Distributing, and Mount Hope Auction.

Proceeds from the outing benefited the Diane E. Arnold Memorial Scholarship Fund. The 2019 scholarship winners were announced May 21. Recipients from Harrison Central High School were Jara Madzia and Luke McKinney. The other scholarship winners were Kenedi Cesnak, of Stow High School, and Brianna Brown, of Indian Valley High School. Each winner receives a $1,500 scholarship.

Tent revival

The "Old Fashioned Tent Revival" was held Aug. 12-18 at Lakeland Area Ministries with local musicians and ministers each night. Pastor Jim Hauser welcomed the tent of people with Pastor Jim McConnell of the Freeport-Nottingtonham Presbyterian churches who sang and preached. Pastor Sandra Cappel, of the Lakeland parish, led the singing.

Free dinner

A free dinner with Grilled Hamburgers and Hot Dogs will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Aug. 29, at the Freeport United Methodist Church, 223 High St., Freeport.

Senior Center news

Trinity Hospital will conduct health checks at 9 a.m. Aug. 26, at the West Chester Senior Center. On Aug. 27, the seniors will have a picnic-in-the-park event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tuscor Park, and on Aug. 28, they will have breakfast at Denny’s.

Four Seasons club

On Aug. 28 at 7p.m., the Four Seasons Garden Club will meet at the home of Bernadine Sliva with inspiration by Sharon Gump and roll call "Garden Club Suggestions."
