Tuscarawas County has a rich history of noteworthy high school athletes and teams. Now those individuals, teams, and support staff will have an opportunity to be acknowledged and honored.
A long-awaited and long-overdue Tuscarawas County Sports Hall of Fame will induct its inaugural class June 20, 2020, in a banquet that will be held at Buckeye Career Center.
The TCSHOF Board has been meeting recently at Dover Public Library and approved the bylaws and minimum eligibility requirements for nomination into the county-wide organization. Representatives include Jim Carrothers from Claymont, Jim Contini from Dover, Bob Hannon from Garaway, Bob Zontini from Indian Valley, Randy Addy from Newcomerstown, Tom Farbizo from New Philadelphia, Terry Straub from Strasburg, Amy Burrier from Tusky Valley, and Bob O’Donnell from Tuscarawas Central Catholic. At large members are Connie Evans and Hank Keathley. Ad-Hoc members are Jim Gill, Bob Stephenson and Paul McEwan. The group will now begin the process outlined in the bylaws to elect the first class of inductees. Every district will have a minimum of two inductees in the first class but could have more than two.
The purpose of the TCSHOC is to select people who have distinguished themselves in one or more sports in Tuscarawas County High Schools, any college or university or other areas of amateur or professional athletics or who have made meritorious efforts on behalf of athletics programs in Tuscarawas County, Ohio.
School district residents are encouraged to nominate people who meet the above criteria no later than December 31, 2019. Please contact the person from your district to secure a nomination form. Newcomerstown residents should contact Randy Addy by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
