JACKSON -- William Andrew Mauch, 86, of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Four Winds Nursing Home.

He was born in Maspeth, N.Y., on Nov. 19, 1922, to the late Conrad and Rose (Ditmar) Mauch.

He was a graduate of Grover Cleveland High School in Maspeth, N.Y., he took courses at Florida University in Puerto Rico, Marshall University in West Virginia and Rio Grande University in Rio Grande. He attended and graduated from the Maritime Academy in New London, Conn. He was a merchant sailor during World War II. He was a USCG Inspector and a full lieutenant under the Department of Treasury. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, American Legion and VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Hope Laverne (Johns) Mauch of 63 years; children, Laura (Rick) Bowen, Linda Hanmer (Carl) Hauser, Louise Mauch, Steve (Stacy) Mauch, Sam (Jamie) Mauch; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lillian Mauch; one brother; two sisters; and one son-in-law, Luke Hanmer.

Funeral services were Jan. 3, 2009, at the Faith Lutheran Church of Jackson. Pastor John Jackson officiated with burial in the Fairmount Cemetery.

The Eisnaugle-Lewis Funeral Home in Jackson was in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Faith Lutheran Church Building Fund, 245 E. Huron St., Jackson, OH 45640; or to the Alzheimer's Association, 644 Linn St., Suite 1026, Cincinnati, OH 45203.
