Funeral services for Robert "Bob" E. Maurer, 78, of Newcomerstown, were Jan. 26, 2009, at the Addy Funeral Home, Newcomerstown. Rev. Garry Marlatt will officiate the services with burial in the West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown. He passed away Jan. 21 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville.

He was born Oct. 4, 1930, in Newcomerstown, the son of the late Clarence W.O. and Ruby E. (Wyler) Maurer.

He had worked at Belden Brick Company for 17 years and was a farmer which was the joy of his life.

Mr. Maurer was a member of the Wolf-Salem United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed visiting with the neighbors. Bob endured declining health problems which his family cherished giving him the care he needed. He was a great husband and father. He gave each one of his grandchildren special nicknames. He is remembered as the man on his International M tractor farming his father's farm.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Cathy Masters; and one sister, Alverta Baab.

On June 19, 1949, he married Beverly L. (Foraker) Maurer, who survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Crystal (John) Miskimen of Florida and Carolyn (Edward) Tice of Newcomerstown; one son, Robert E. Maurer Jr. of the home; one son-in-law, James Masters of Newcomerstown; 12 grandchildren, John Miskimen Jr. of Florida, Julie (Derrick) Putnam of Missouri, April Parrish of Port Washington, John Masters of Mt. Vernon, Melissa Masters of Newcomerstown, Jennifer Masters of Cambridge, Carrie (Scott) Gamble of Newcomerstown, Amanda Arth of North Salem, Adam Arth of Newcomerstown, Ashley Arth of Gnadenhutten, Jess (Kayla) Arth of Port Washington and Krysta Arth of Newcomerstown; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
