Funeral services to celebrate the life of Peggy M. "Peg" Allen, 72, of Newcomerstown, were March 11, 2009, at the Ourant Funeral Home, Newcomerstown. Father William J. Faustner officiated. Burial followed in St. Jacob's Cemetery, Oxford Township, Tuscarawas County. She passed away Friday evening, March 6, 2009, in the intensive care unit of Coshocton County Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

Peggy was born in Plainfield, Coshocton County, on Jan. 7, 1937, a daughter of the late Ermel Clifford Durben, who died in 1957, and the late Lillie Irene Marlatt Durben, who died in 1994.

She was a graduate of Plainfield High School, Class of 1955, and took home courses with the Art Institute, Minneapolis. Peggy was a homemaker for all of her adult life and was a member of St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church, Newcomerstown. She did packaging work as a sub-contractor for 31 Inc., Newcomerstown, for several years.

When she lived in Columbus for a brief time, she was employed as a clerk with the Ohio Department of Agriculture. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, quilting, sewing, reading and painting.

Peggy is survived by her husband of 43 years, Rich T. Allen of Newcomerstown, whom she married June 12, 1965.

She is also survived by four sisters and two brothers, Roberta L. Dunkle and her companion Ernest F. Devericks of Wadsworth and Kimbolton, Karen L. (John A) Miller of Cambridge, Mary E. (Bud) Steed of Newcomerstown, Dorothy I. (Chuck) Edwards of Uhrichsville, and Richard W. (Doris A.) Durben and Robert W. (Cheyenne) Durben, all of Newcomerstown; several nieces and nephews; her dogs, Babe and Sweetie; and her cats, Magnus and Princess.

The family is requesting that memorials be made in Peggy's name to an individual's favorite charity.
