COSHOCTON -- Funeral services for Jack E. Carpenter, 84, of West Lafayette, were March 17, 2009, in the Chapel of the Given-Dawson Funeral Home in Coshocton. Pastor Don Silverthorne officiated. Burial followed in Waggoner Cemetery in West Lafayette. He passed away Friday, March 13 at Lafayette Point Care Center, West Lafayette.

He was born July 23, 1924, in Coshocton, the son of the late Clarence E. and Myrtle I. (Poland) Carpenter.

Jack graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1942. Since May 1975, he was the owner and operator of Jack E. Carpenter Plumbing and Heating in West Lafayette for 34 years.

He worked in the trade for over 60 years and was a Charter Member of the Coshocton County REACT.

On Sept. 20, 1947, he married R. Marie (Bear) Carpenter, who survives.

Jack is also survived by two sons and a daughter, Donald (Donna) Carpenter of Warsaw, Richard D. (Linda) Carpenter of Kannapolis, N.C., and Michelle A. Carpenter of West Lafayette; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert M. (Pat) Carpenter of Coshocton; special sister-in-law and husband, Thelma and Orval Plotts of Freeport; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by his parent, and step-mother, Mattie Myers Carpenter Jones.
