CAMBRIDGE -- Funeral services for Ruth Elizabeth Carothers, 89, of Kimbolton, were March 31, 2009, at the Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge. Pastor Nelson Miller officiated with burial in the Kimbolton Cemetery. She passed away March 28 at her home.

She was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Kimbolton, daughter of the late Jasper Fred and Ida Myrtle (Wilson) Umstott.

Mrs. Carothers was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church.

She was a 1937 graduate of Plainfield High School, and enjoyed flowers, gardening, reading, crocheting and quilting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard P. Carothers, in 1985. They were married Sept. 23, 1939. Also deceased are her parents; sister, Wilma, an infant sister, Lucille; and infant brother, Willard.

She leaves a son, Leland Carothers of Kimbolton; daughter, Louise (Wayne) Swigert of Newcomerstown; brothers, John (Helen) Umstott of Tucson, Ariz., and Raymond Umstott of Kimbolton; grandchildren, Jennifer Lendon, Bethesda and Matthew Swigert of Newcomerstown; four great-grandchildren, Sadie, Bea, Millie Lendon and Ethan Swigert; several nieces and nephews.
