A celebration of life service was May 5, 2009, at the First Baptist Church of Newcomerstown for Wayne Lewis Swigert, 65, of Newcomerstown. Pastor Tom Barber and Rev. Nelson Miller officiated the services. His request was to be cremated. He went to be with the lord on Friday, May 1, 2009, at the Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Newcomerstown.

He was born Oct. 25, 1943, in Newcomerstown, the son of the late James and Mary (Taylor) Swigert.

He was a 1962 graduate of Newcomerstown High School. He received his bachelor and masters degrees from Western Kentucky University.

Mr. Swigert retired in 1998 after 30 years as an Industrial Arts teacher for Newcomerstown Schools.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newcomerstown, member of The Stark Co. Bicycle Club and Southern Ohio Forge and Anvil Club. He enjoyed woodworking and was a trustee at the church.

On Dec. 20, 1969, he married Louise Carorthers Swigert, who survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Jennifer (George) Lendon of Bethesda; one son, Matthew W. (Sarah) Swigert of Newcomerstown; four grandchildren, Sadie, Bea and Mille Lendon and Ethan Swigert; and one sister, Sarah Jean (John) Little of Port Washington.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, Lyle and Forrest Earl Swigert.
