Arthur M. John, 89, of Concord Township, Tuscarawas County, passed away May 24, 2009, at his residence with his family by his side.

He was born Feb. 6, 1920, in Salem Township, to the late Lester E. and Sarah (Carrothers) John.

Mr. John was a World War II Airforce veteran working in aircraft maintenance.

He retired in 1985 after working as a rural mail carrier for 27 years in Stone Creek and New Philadelphia. Mr. John owned and operated beef and dairy farms, and Art's Food Mart. He was also a volunteer fireman.

He had been an active member in Newcomers Church of Christ, as well as Rural Carriers Association, National Association for Retired Federal Employees, Farm Bureau and Grange.

Survivors include his children, Jennifer (Bruce) Hillier of Concord, David (Jacqueline) John of Tampa, Fla., Barbara (Michael) Papoi of Deltone, Fla., and Paul (Jacki) John of Bowerston; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth H. (Ott) John; and a sister, Mary Lou Steed.

Private family burial will take place at a later date in Newcomerstown. The Johnson Funeral Home in Painesville is assisting the family with arrangements.
