PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- With his family by his side on Sunday, June 21, 2009, James LaVerne Plants, 78, of Ingram, Pa., passed away.

Jim was a Korean War veteran and was buried with military honors in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. He was a graduate of Newcomerstown High School and a member of Carpenter's Union Local 211.

Beloved husband of Debra and the late Alma.

Dear father of Patricia (Roy) Picchi of Oregon, Vivian Plants of Wheeling, W.Va., James R. (Lisa) Plants, Susan (Bob) Sampson, Cynthia (Dave) Tew, Renee Walk and Bill (Kristen) Lyons. Also 34 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and faithful companion, Snickers. Brother of Barb (Bud) Masters, Jack (Jean) Plants, Wayne (Mary) Plants, Betty Rothenstein, Virgil (Carol) and Carl (Shirley) Plants; and brother-in-law of Dave, Jan and Duane Antico.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hershberger-Stover Inc. Funeral Home, 170 Noble Ave., Pittsburgh, Pa.

The funeral services was held June 25.
