WILLIAM L. RIDGLEY
Funeral services for William L. "Bill" Ridgley, 81, of Newcomerstown, were July 11, 2009, at the Newcomerstown Church of Christ. Evangelists Gregory K. Circle II and Charles Newell officiated. Burial followed in West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown. The Ourant Funeral Home in Newcomerstown was in charge of arrangements. He passed away late Monday night, July 6, in Union Hospital, Dover .
Bill was born in Canton on Jan. 31, 1928, the son of the late Raymond and Ethel Craft Ridgley.
He was a graduate of Newcomerstown High School, class of 1945, and served in the Army Air Corps as a radio repair technician and telephone switchboard operator with the occupation forces in Germany at the conclusion of World War II. He was employed as a clerk and mail carrier with the Newcomerstown Post Office before his disability retirement in 1979.
Before that, Bill was a machine operator with General Tire & Rubber Company, Newcomerstown, and served as a surveyor with the Ohio Department of Transportation. He was also employed at the former Heller Brothers Tool Company, Newcomerstown, for a few years, and also with Moore Enameling, West Lafayette, during World War II. Bill was a longtime member of the Newcomerstown Church of Christ and also served as a minister with the Isleta Church of Christ, Coshocton County. One of his favorite activities was studying the Bible.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Eileen Eckelberry Ridgley of Newcomerstown, who passed away April 27, 2002, and whom he married Sept. 2, 1951. Also deceased is an infant sister.
Bill is survived by his son, Raymond W. Ridgley of Newcomerstown; his daughter, Deborah L. (Tim) Bryant of Newcomerstown; step-son, Cyrus R. (Marilyn) Eggleston of Port Washington; five grandchildren, Donna (Mrs. Chad) McMullen, Stephanie Wharff, Megan Bryant and Tina (Mrs. Dale) Brandon, all of Newcomerstown, and April (Mrs. Jim) Wright of Dover; and four great-grandchildren, Macy Hannahs, Dakota McCune, and Tance Brandon, all of Newcomerstown, and Shelby Wright, Dover.
The family is requesting that memorials be made in Bill's name to the American Heart Association, Great Lakes Affiliate, P.O. Box 163549, Columbus, OH 43216.
