MICHAEL J. SOMOGYE SERVICES

1967-2009

Michael J. Somogye, 63, Newcomerstown, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 30, 2009, in Union Hospital, Dover, following a short struggle with cancer.

Michael was born in Akron on Jan. 24, 1967, and was preceded in death by parents Michael A. Somogye, who died Sept. 9, 1993, and Anna Takacs Somogye, who died Sept. 30, 2008.

He was a graduate of Newcomerstown High School, Class of 1964. Michael served in the Army during the Vietnam War as an electronics specialist.

He was a machinist for many years with several companies and recently retired as a truck driver from Reese Trucking, Dover.

He was a former member of St. Francis DeSales Church, Newcomerstown, where he served as an altar boy. Michael enjoyed watching baseball, flying model airplanes, working with model train sets, woodworking and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane M. Schwartzkopf of Brighton, Colo., who died in 2005.

Michael is survived by his wife of 42 years, Eileen G. Shalosky Somogye, Newcomerstown, whom he married June 24, 1967.

He also leaves three sons, David M. (Laura) of Broomfield, Colo., SFC John L. (Christie) of Ft. Hood, Texas, and SPC Michael R. (Nicole) of Ft. Hood Texas. Michael is now serving a tour of duty with the Army in Iraq. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; his sister, Barbara A. (Thomas) Hackathorn of Canton; his brother, Joseph C. and Patricia of Newcomerstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

To honor Michael's requests, his remains are to be cremated. No visiting hours will be observed. A memorial Mass of Resurrection will be Saturday, Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. in St. Francis DeSales Church, 440 S. River St., Newcomerstown.

Fr. Ed Keck and Fr. William Faustner will celebrate the Mass.

The Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard will perform military services at the church following the Mass.

The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Michael's name to the American Cancer Society, 525 N. Broad St., Canfield, OH 44406.
