COSHOCTON -- Robert G. Kohler, 85, of Coshocton, passed away peacefully at his home, Friday, Sept. 25, 2009.

He was born May 30, 1924, in Newcomerstown, the son of the late Robert L. and Opal I. (Kuhn) Kohler.

Bob was a 1943 graduate of Newcomerstown High School and a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Coshocton. He retired in 1980 after 30 years of service from Columbia Gas of Ohio as a fitter welder.

He was also a World War II veteran having served as a member of the 4th Regiment, 6th Division of the U.S. Marine Corps and took part in major campaigns on Guam, Pailau and Okinawa in the South Pacific.

Bob loved his family and enjoyed his many friends. He was particularly fond of gardening, hunting, fishing and sports.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Maxine (Dickerson) Kohler; sons, Robert (Kathy) Kohler of Coshocton, Danny (Rhonda) Kohler of Westerville, and Timothy (Rhonda) Kohler of Coshocton; daughter, Ruth Kohler of Coshocton; 13 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary (Clarence) Watts of Newcomerstown and Marilyn (Don) Atkinson of Newark; brother-in-law, Stanley (Shirley) Dickerson; sister-in-law, Ruth Dickerson of Coshocton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Sept. 30, 2009, at the Given-Dawson Funeral Home, Coshocton.

Pastor Bryan Kittner officiated the services with burial in the West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown. Graveside military services were conducted by the Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard.
