V. LaMAR SMITH
WALNUT CREEK -- V. LaMar "Smitty" Smith, 95, of Walnut Creek, passed away Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at Walnut Hills Nursing Home.
He was born Nov. 30, 1913, in Nappanee, Ind., to the late Rev. Lloyd E. and Carrie M. (Wellman) Smith.
He was retired from the Pennsylvanian College of Podiatric Medicine, where he worked as personel director.
He attended St. John's United Church of Christ at Walnut Creek.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruthella P. (Borchet) Smith; and two brothers, Emerson W. Smith and Gerald M. Smith.
He is survived by his second wife, Harriet L. (Murphy) Gossett Smith; his son, David L. (Doris) Smith of Pottstown, Pa.; stepson, Lonnie L. (Virginia) Gossett of Port Washington; daughter, Shirley (John) Kofoed of Florida; stepdaughters, Judith Hanshaw of Newcomerstown, Frances Kay (John) Dennis of Newcomerstown and Sharon S. Merritt of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were Nov. 27, 2009, at the St. John's United Church of Christ at Walnut Creek. The Rev. Mark Behrendt officiated.
Interment followed in Haines City, Fla.
Arrangements were entrusted with the Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
