Doris J. Yanai, 82, Newcomerstown, formerly of Avon Park, Fla., passed away Wednesday morning, Jan. 13, 2010, in the New Dawn Retirement Community Center, Dover.

Doris was born in Newcomerstown on Jan. 24, 1927, a daughter of the late James Lewis and Mary Elizabeth Mardis Bradshaw.

She attended Newcomerstown schools and was a homemaker for all her adult life. Doris was employed at the former Moore Enameling, West Lafayette, during World War II. She was an avid golfer and participated in golf leagues at River Greens South Golf Course, Avon Park, and the River Greens North Golf Course and Hickory Flats Golf Course, both West Lafayette, and the Sugarcreek Golf Course. Doris also enjoyed bowling in the leagues at Cy Young Lanes, Newcomerstown, shopping and traveling.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew P. "A. P." Yanai of Newcomerstown, who passed away Nov. 4, 2001, and whom she married June 3, 1946. Also deceased are a daughter, Patricia "Pat" Yanai Gadd of Newcomerstown, who died in 1989; three brothers, James "Sonny," John and Robert Bradshaw, all of Newcomerstown; and sisters, Madeline and Ruth.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan L. (Dennis W.) Rieger of Atwood Lake; a sister, Maxine Viola Haas of Arkansas; several nieces and nephews in the Bradshaw and Yanai families, including Ginger A. Wise and Jo-Anne (Basiletti) Clarke, both of Newcomerstown; and sisters-in-law, Anne Abbott of Newcomerstown and Rosie Tomasina of Dennison.

Funeral services were Jan. 16, 2010, at the Ourant Funeral Home, Newcomerstown. The Rev. Donald Silverthorne officiated the services. Burial in the West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown, will be at a later date.
