COSHOCTON -- Ernest Leroy Shivers, 91, of West Lafayette, passed away Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at Lafayette Point Care Facility in West Lafayette.
He was born in Wellston on July 7, 1918, the son of the late Ralph and Auta Woodruff Shivers.
He attended school at Dennison High School and then served in the U. S. Army during World War II.
Leroy retired from Conrail Railroad after 48 years of service, and was a member of West Lafayette United Methodist Church, Life Member of VFW 1330, American Legion, NARVE 104 and Briar Patch Beagle Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and running his Beagles.
Surviving are his wife, Floretta Jeanne Huff Shivers, who he married April 8, 1946; his two sons, Donovan (Mary) Shivers of Coshocton and Kirby (Kate) Shivers of West Lafayette; daughter-in-law, Diana Shivers of West Lafayette; special granddaughter, Cyndee (Doug) Patterson of West Lafayette, 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Peggy Palma of Atlanta, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
Leroy was preceded in death by his sons, Walter "Regis" Shivers and Raymond Leroy Shivers; brothers, Raymond and Ralph Shivers; and his sister, Betty Brandon.
A funeral service took place Feb. 26, 2010, in the Chapel of the Given-Dawson Funeral Home, Coshocton.
Pastor Sue Chidley officiated.
Burial followed in Coshocton County Memory Gardens, where the Coshocton Veterans Council conducted graveside military rites.
