Carolyn Lilly Eckelberry, 77, Newcomerstown, passed away suddenly Saturday morning, May 8, 2010, in the emergency room of Union Hospital, Dover.

Carolyn was born in Kimbolton on Aug. 13, 1932, a daughter of the late Charles T. and Mildred Alloway Rose.

She was a graduate of Cambridge High School. Carolyn was a homemaker for all her adult life. She attended the United Methodist Church, Kimbolton, in her early years and was a former member of the Newcomerstown Women of the Moose, Chapter 0029. Carolyn enjoyed raising flowers, participating in many outdoor activities and cooking.

Carolyn is survived by three sons, Bruce A. (Margaret A.) Rose and Wilmer D. Eckelbery and his companion, Sally J. Ross, all of New Philadelphia, and William D. "Bill" (Linda L.) Eckelberry of Coshocton; two daughters, Serena K. Jacobs of Strasburg and Patricia M. (Shawn T.) Tilman of Newcomerstown; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Mikey A. Miller, Makayla L. Davis and Riley Eckelberry, all of Newcomerstown; a brother, Jessie Rose of Kimbolton; three sisters, Lelia Ridens of Eagle River, Alaska, Bessie J. Clarkston of Wasilla, Alaska, and Mabel Montgomery of Cambridge; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by a grandson, Bruce Rose of New Philadelphia; four sisters; three brothers; and her former husband and the father of her children, Wilmer H. "Huck" Eckelberry of Newcomerstown.

To honor Carolyn's wishes, no visiting hours will be observed. Public graveside services and burial were conducted May 12 at West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown. Evangelist Greg K. Circle II conducted the services.

The family requests that memorials be made in Carolyn's name to the Epilepsy Foundation, 8301 Professional Place, Landover, MD 20785.

The Ourant Funeral Home in Newcomerstown is assisting Carolyn's family with arrangements.
