Lee Ripley, 72, of Gahanna, passed away at his home on Thursday, June 3, 2010.

He was born in Newcomerstown on April 20, 1938, and was a 1956 graduate of Newcomerstown High School.

Lee served our country in the US Army and was a patriotic American. He worked for more than 38 years as an electrician and was a proud member of the IBEW No. 683. He was also a member of Ralph R. Rickly Lodge No. 670 F&AM. He was a Boy Scout leader for many of his 46 years as a resident of Gahanna.

Lee was an avid hunter and enjoyed camping and sports, especially baseball. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, and he was there to encourage his grandchildren through all of their school and extracurricular activities.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Elizabeth Ripley; son-in-law, Todd Strait; father- and mother-in-law, Alfred and Dot Heller; and brothers-in-law, Jim Herbert and Harry Meek.

Lee is survived by his wife of 50 years, Frances Lynn (Heller) Ripley; children, Pamela (Jeff) Crossmock, Victoria Strait (Rick Munns) and Michael (Jeanette) Ripley; grandchildren, Christa (Rob) McNamee, Ashley Crossmock, Samantha (Brad) Wilson, Elizabeth Strait, Valerie (Joshua) Alt, Joshua Ripley (Emily McMains) and Dane Ripley; great-grandchildren, Hunter Alt, Luke Alt and Todd Wilson; sister, Mary Herbert; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Duke and Wanda Heller, and Edna Meek; lifelong friend, Bob Sowers; and many nieces and nephews.

Family received family June 7, 2010, at the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230.

A funeral service took place June 8 at the funeral home. Chaplain Major Will Ghere, US Army retired, officiated the services.

Interment followed in the Mifflin Cemetery.
