CAMBRIDGE -- Martha E. Brothers, 87, of Cambridge, formerly of Red Carpet Health Care Center, Cambridge, passed away Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at Southeastern Med, Cambridge.

She was born May 21, 1923, in Cambridge, a daughter of the late J. Paul LaRue and Ella T. Warden La Rue.

Mrs. Brothers attended Old Washington Presbyterian Church.

She was a graduate of Old Washington High School. She and her husband owned a farm at Gibson Station for many years. After that, they were the original owners of Zane-ette on Route 40 and the Brothers Furniture Store.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dwight L. Brothers in November 1979 (they married Oct. 4, 1941); and three grandchildren, Mark Chambers, Melissa Blake and Travis Wallace.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara (Tom) Chambers of Cambridge, Janet K. (Harold) of Zanesville, and Brenda (Ronnie) Wallace of Cambridge; a son, Jim (Billie) Brothers of Newark; six grandchildren, Michael (Beth) Chambers of Zanesville, Tracey (Jim) Antill of Cambridge, Brian (Brenda) Brothers of Alaska, Bruce (Audra) Brothers of Newark, Eric Wallace and Carrie Wallace of Cambridge; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Aug. 5 at the Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge. The Rev. Andy Woods officiated the service.

A private burial will take place in Friends Cemetery at a later date.
