CAMBRIDGE Howard B. Caldwell, 100, of Cambridge, passed away Oct. 12, 2011, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

He was born Feb. 8, 1911, in Antrim, to the late Samuel A. and Arlie (Gray) Caldwell.

Also preceding him in death was his wife, Marie Caldwell, on May 23, 2007; a son, Ray Caldwell in 1946; a sister, Velma McCormick; and brother, Ralph Caldwell.

After farming in Antrim area, Howard and wife Marie moved to Newcomerstown to operate a Standard Oil Distributorship, later he became and independent insurance agent for Grange Mutual Insurance and his wife Marie worked side by side in the partnership.

He was a longtime active member of Presbyterian churches in Antrim, Newcomerstown and Unity of Cambridge while holding various positions and attended Center United Methodist Church for a number of years with his wife Marie. He was a former Chaplain and Master for the Ohio State Grange, active in the Grange both on the local and State level, inducted into the Ohio State Grange Hall of Fame. Member of the Lone Star Masonic Lodge in Newcomerstown, while in Newcomerstown active in the Chamber of Commerce to include Past President. His fondish memories were spending time with family and friends.

Howard and his wife Marie celebrated 75 years of marriage.

He is survived by a daughter, Eula Faye Stewart of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Randy (Kristin) Hoffman, Teresa Bistor, Faylene (Tom) Simmerman and Shelia Switzer; 11 great-grandchildren, Justin and Hailey Hoffman, Erin (Denny) Burris, Emily (Emmit) Wagle, Charity (Chet) Orr, Shawn, Jason, Joshua (Jen) Simmerman, Kelli Marie (Greg) Johnson, Rebecca Hart and Nickolas (Amber) Hart; six great-great-grandchildren, Devan and Adddison Burris, Austin Simmerman, Jack and Tommy Johnson and Alanna Hart; and dedicated and loving caregivers.

Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at the Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge, with Pastor Jim Spain and the Rev. Don Fairchild officiating.

Burial was in the Antrim Cemetery.
