John A. Gunn, 84, of Newcomerstown, passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, at Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Newcomerstown.

He was born Oct. 6, 1927, in Newcomerstown, to the late Charles R. Gunn and Mary E. (Worley) Gunn.

He was a 1948 Newcomerstown High School graduate and a graduate of the Pittsburgh Art Institute. He was U.S. Army Korean War Veteran, an employee of ODOT Central office, and a member of Wolf-Salem United Methodist Church.

He was also a member of the Veterans Foreign Wars Post 3303 of Newcomerstown, American Legion-Thomas C. Montgomery 431 of Newcomerstown and was a past post commander for both, and was a past post county commander for the American Legion.

On Aug. 29, 1948, he married Norazella V. (Saylor) Gunn, who passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2011.

He is survived by two sons, John R. (Dee A.) Gunn of Newcomerstown and Talmage L. (Darla K.) Gunn of Port Washington; five grandchilden; two step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Georgia Gunn of Springfield, Mo.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Francis, and Franklin Gunn.

A memorial service took place Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, in the Wolf-Salem United Methodist Church, Stonecreek Road, Newcomerstown, with the Rev. Garry Marlatt officiating. There was no visitation. The Addy Funeral Home in Newcomerstown was in charge of arrangements.
