Kathryn Lee "Kathy" Hostetler, RN, 60, Newcomerstown, formerly of Daly City, Calif., passed away suddenly Friday morning, March 9, 2012, at the Coshocton County Memorial Hospital.
Kathryn was born in Newcomerstown on Sept. 4, 1951, and was preceded in death by her parents, Lee O. Clarke, Newcomerstown, who died in 1998, and Norma Kathryn Shurtz Clarke, Newcomerstown, who died in 1984.
She was a graduate of Newcomerstown High School, class of 1969. She also graduated from the City College of San Francisco in 1997 with an Associate in Science degree with Award of Achievement in Nursing. Kathryn was employed as a registered nurse with the Seton Medical Center, Daly City, for over 15 years. Kathryn was a member of the California Nurses' Association and was an active supporter of the Daughters of Charity with the Seton Medical Center. She enjoyed traveling, especially to her favorite destinations, Monterey, Pacific Grove, and Carmel, Calif., on the Monterey Peninsula, and enjoying nature, especially fishing and bird watching. She also had a passion for music and enjoyed watching movies. Kathryn was also a very caring person and willingly donated her time and resources to a multitude of charities and animal rights organizations in northern California and across the country.
In addition to her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by a half-brother, Gary Clarke, Canton. Kathryn is survived by her life partner of 33 years, Athena Lynn Steff, Daly City, Calif. Also surviving are her step-mother, Jo-Ann (Basiletti) Clarke of Newcomerstown; her daughter-in-law, Deborah Hunt of North Canton; five grandchildren, Logan M. Hunt, twins Dakota A. and Nakoa J. Hunt, Kolt T. Hunt, and Stormie N. Hunt, all of North Canton; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Christopher Sawyers of Canton. Kathryn also leaves behind two special friends, her rescued cats, "Pig" and "Pee-Pee."
To honor Kathryn's wishes and requests, her remains are to be cremated. No visiting hours or services will be observed. Kathryn's family is requesting that memorials be made in Kathryn's name to an individual's favorite charity. The Ourant Funeral Home in Newcomerstown is assisting the family with all the arrangements.
