Irma E. Simmerman, 86, of Newcomerstown, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012, at her residence.

One of 10 siblings, Irma was born Feb. 22, 1926, in Cambridge, to the late Barnabus "Barney" and Julianna (Hudak) Mazek (who were from North East Hungary).

Irma grew up in the Cambridge area, attending Old Washington High School.

Irma worked various waitress jobs, and worked at a Goodyear Airplane factory in Akron before the war.

Later, after the war, she met and married Curtis Charles Simmerman Sr. in 1945. They settled in Newcomerstown where they raised their family and eventually moved on the family farm near Peoli. Most of all, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Irma worked atKurz-Kasch, Newcomerstown Division, the majority of her working years and retired in 1988.

She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. She most recently made her home at the Riverside Apartments Assisted Living Center where her and her friends could be found playing a serious game of bingo.

The family's heartfelt thanks go out to the wonderful staff at the Riverside Apartments for their loving care, along with her friends there, for making Riverside her home.

In addition to her parents, Irma was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Charles Sr.; one grandson, Michael Shawn Simmerman; and all of her siblings, Andy (Betty) Mazek, Julia Mazek, Ann Mazek (infant death), Steven Mazek, Irene (Joseph) Spirko, Mary (Willard) Neff, Margaret (Harold) Jackson, Davis "Bud" Mazek, Helen (Stanley) Jaworski.

She was survived by two sons, Curtis C. (Judy) Simmerman Jr. of Newcomerstown and Robert A. (Donna) Simmerman of Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren, Jon (Angela) Simmerman of Newcomerstown, Andrea (David) Emerick of Florida, Jason R. Simmerman of Mt. Vernon; two great-grandchildren, Avery and Abby Simmerman; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Addy Funeral Home, Newcomerstown, with Pastor Ralph Hollingsworth officiating.

Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown.
