Gaylord Boyce Dye, 73, Kimbolton (Coshocton County), passed away late Wednesday morning, Oct. 2, 2013, at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus.
Gaylord was born in Gastonia, N.C., on Feb. 8, 1940, a son of the late Tom and Lillie Bertha Cross Dye.
He was a graduate of Belmont High School, Belmont, N.C. Gaylord was an Army veteran, serving at Ft. Benning, Ga. He returned to civilian life and was a self-employed truck driver for many years. He was also employed as a driver for McLane Trucking, Summit County, for several years before a medical disability retirement in 1985. Gaylord was a member of the Thomas Montgomery Post 431, Newcomerstown American Legion, where he served as treasurer. He enjoyed fishing, working on automobile engines and gardening. He was also an avid NASCAR fan and his favorite driver was the late Dale Earnhardt Sr., in race car No. 3.
Gaylord is survived by his wife, Edra M. Bittecuffer Dye, Kimbolton, whom he married April 4, 1982. Also surviving are four sons and two daughters, Gaylord "Chip" (Sharon) Dye Jr., Joseph (Tina) Zuk, Robert Zuk, Tracy Dye, Lynda Dye and Donna (Mark) Sharrock; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers; and four sisters.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
To honor Gaylord's wishes, his remains are to be cremated. No visiting hours or memorial services will be scheduled at this time.
The family is requesting that memorials be made in Gaylord's name to the Thomas Montgomery Post 431, Newcomerstown American Legion, 1 Canal Court, Newcomerstown, OH 43832.
