BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -- Glada Lee Russell, 85, of Franklin, Tenn., born Nov. 26, 1928, in Newcomerstown, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at the Williamson Medical Center. She was predeceased by her parents, Wilbur Whitis and Mabyle Whitis; and brother, James Whitis (Lynnie).

Her survivors include her husband, Don R. Russell, who she married 65 years ago in 1948 in Newcomerstown.

She is also survived by daughters, Marsha Nager (Larry) of Nashville, Tenn., and Denise Darbyshire (Ted) of Lima, Ohio; sons, John R. Russell (Carol) of Brentwood, Tenn., and Tom Russell (Julie) of Brentwood, Tenn.; grandchildren Eric George of Columbus Grove, Ohio, Sarah Bartlett (Phill) of Charleston, S.C., Amanda Russell of Nashville, Tenn., Michael Russell of Washington, DC, Molly Russell of Brentwood, Tenn., and Cody Russell at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala.; great-grandchildren Shalen and Brenna George of Ada, Ohio, Charley Beth, and (Twins) Will and Luke Bartlett of Charleston, SC.

Glada graduated from Newcomerstown High School in 1946 with Don where they had been high school "steadies" for all four years. She later graduated from Brown Medical Laboratory School in Columbus. She served as a medical lab technician at hospitals in Sandusky, Cambridge, and Coshocton. Most of her work years were at Logan Clinic as a medical assistant for Dr. Roy Bontrager. Glada was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Logan, Ohio, for 43 years where she taught discipleship classes for many years. Upon moving to Brentwood, Tenn., in 1999, she became a member of Brentwood United Methodist Church and continued involvement in the discipleship program. She had a passion for reading and a great love of pets. Her greatest pastime was water-colored paintings with over 600 of them numbered and digitalized by her husband since 1999. She demonstrated her love and devotion to her family and friends by personalizing every card she sent.

She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

To honor her life, a funeral service took place at Brentwood United Methodist Church on Franklin Road on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, with Bishop Robert Spain officiating.

The Robert I. Moore Class of BUMC served as honorary pallbearers.
