Ruth Ilene Martin, 90, Port Washington, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at her Port Washington address.
Ruth was born in Newcomerstown on July 30, 1923, the daughter of the late James E. Shalosky, who died in 1972, and the late Grace A. Graham Shalosky, who died in 1983.
Ruth was a homemaker for all of her adult life and was a cafeteria employee of the former Port Washington High School for many years. She was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ, Port Washington, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and a custodian. Along with her husband, Robert, she was a member of the Coachman Club Camping Group for many years. Ruth enjoyed bird watching, raising flowers, and doing embroidery work. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Robert D. Martin, Port Washington, who died on Oct. 5, 2010. Ruth and Robert were married on Aug. 25, 1942. Also deceased are her son, Robert D. Martin II, New Philadelphia, who died in 2013; three sons-in-law, Jerry Barker, Port Washington, Vernon L. Glazer, Port Washington, and Carl E. Casteel, Gnadenhutten; and a grandson.
Ruth is survived by her four daughters, Janet L. Barker and Beverly A. and husband Dan Kinsey, all of Port Washington, Mary L. Killam, Stone Creek, and Shirley I. and husband Chuck Muhs, Stone Creek. Also surviving are a daughter-in-law, Lucinda "Cindi" Fisher Martin, New Philadelphia; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services to celebrate Ruth's life were Wednesday, May 14, 2014, in the Ourant Funeral Home, Newcomerstown. The Rev. Dr. Robert E. Buckley conducted the services. Burial followed in the Salem-Union Cemetery, Port Washington. Following the graveside services, the family met for a luncheon and fellowship at the St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 114 N. High St., Port Washington.
The family is requesting that memorials be made in Ruth's name to the Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
