Sarah Alwilda Garabrandt, 95, West Lafayette, passed away late Saturday afternoon, Aug. 1, 2015, in the Lafayette Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, West Lafayette.
Sarah was born in Oxford Township, Tuscarawas County, on Feb. 23, 1920, a daughter of the late Frederick M. Hootman and the late Mary Emler Hughes.
She was a homemaker and was employed at various businesses including Pretty Products, O'Neill's Department Store, and Edmont-Wilson, all of Coshocton. Sarah was a life member of the VFW Post 1330 Auxiliary, Coshocton, and a member of the Army-Navy Garrison, Coshocton.
Sarah was the last member of her immediate Hootman family, as she was preceded in death by three brothers, Frederick Hootman, California, Gerald R. Hootman Sr., Newcomerstown, and Jack Hootman, Michigan; and three sisters, Audrey G. Cornelius, D. June Phillips, and Mary L. Hootman, all of Coshocton. Also deceased is a half sister, Freda Sandman of Pennsylvania.
Sarah is survived by a half sister, Janet Maruca, Florida; and many nieces and nephews and their families. She also leaves her good friend and caregiver, Mary Taylor, West Lafayette.
To honor Sarah's requests, her remains are to be cremated. No visiting hours will be observed. Public graveside services and burial took place Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, in Fairfield Cemetery, West Lafayette. Pastor James Lillo of the Living Faith Church of the Nazarene, West Lafayette, conducted the services.
The Ourant Funeral Home in Newcomerstown is assisting the family with all of the arrangements.
