Carl "Fritz" Poland, 82, of Newcomerstown passed away Monday, Oct. 5, 2015, at his home.

He was born July 18, 1933, in Stone Creek.

He was a 1953 Stone Creek High School graduate.

He was a Korean War Army Veteran. He was a retired auto mechanic who operated Poland Shell Service in Stone Creek for over 30 years. He was a master woodcarver who was nationally known. He enjoyed fishing and was a member of VFW Post 3303 of Newcomerstown.

On May 5, 1955, he married Doris (Clarke) Poland, who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Gail Frazier of Dover, Denise (Jerry) Adkins of Millersburg, Jennifer (Joe) Celauro of Payson, Ariz., Carol (Michael) Duvall of Strasburg, Elizabeth (Jay) Ohliger of Dover; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert E. Poland of Newcomerstown, and Donald (Velma) Poland of Navarre.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Poland; a brother, John Poland; and a sister, June Reifenschneider.

Services were Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church in Stone Creek with the Rev. William C. Haggis officiating.

Burial followed in Stone Creek Cemetery, where Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard conducted military honors.
