Wayne H. Sprowl, 89, of Newcomerstown, formerly of Port Washington and Rittman, passed away Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, at Union Hospital in Dover, following a period of declining health.

He was born Dec. 13, 1925, in Neffs, to the late George R. and Hilda E. (Bigler) Sprowl.

In 1944, Wayne joined the Army Air Corps. and proudly served his country during World War II. He was very proud of being a belly ball turret gunner in a B-24 Liberator and was also stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

Following the war, he married Reva Grizzel and was happily married over 60 years before her death in 2012. He was a very loving husband, and was a wonderful caregiver to his wife and other family throughout his life. He had worked as part of the loading gang for Morton Salt for 40 years before his retirement in 1988. He was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rittman, and enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, making crafts with his hands, camping, spending his winters in Florida, reading his bible, and spending time with his family.

Wayne is survived by his sons, Ronald (Terrie) Sprowl of Port Washington and Roger (Julie) Sprowl of Lakeville; brothers, Russell Sprowl of Rittman and Dale (Gail) Sprowl of California; grandchildren, Shawn (Tracey) Sprowl of Port Washington, Amanda Sprowl of Wooster, Jamin (Dani) Sprowl of Wooster, Mike (Carmella) Miller of Pittsburgh, and Lacey (Nathaniel) Maxwell of Fort Campbell, Ky.; great-grandchildren, Dalton, Taylor, Clayton, Abby, Emma, Melody, Allissa, Makayla, Zara, Harmony, Melody, Luka, Paisley, Piper, Ben, and Kamden; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Reva; brother, Lawrence Sprowl; and sister-in-law, Lucille Sprowl.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015, at the Auble-Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Drive, Rittman.

Interment with military honors will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
