David B. Leading, 91, of Newcomerstown, passed away Friday, November 2, 2018, at Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Newcomerstown.
He was born Wednesday, January 26, 1927 in New Philadelphia to the late Harold E. and E. Kathryn (Henderson) Leading, He was a 1945 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. He retired from Buckeye Joint Vocational School as a custodian. He was a Newcomerstown school bus driver for 38 years and a Newcomerstown firefighter for 30 years, serving as chief for 4.5 years. He was on the Newcomerstown Water Board and Newcomerstown Village Council, a CDL license examiner, a member of the Tuscarawas Philharmonic for 40 years and played music for high school plays and for the Coshocton Footlight Players. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Newcomerstown.
On September 3, 1950, he married V. Rachel (Wheeler) Leading, who passed away December of 1978 and on December 26, 1979 he married Joyce (Patterson) Leading, who passed away December 10, 1998. He is survived by two sons, Wayne (Connie) Leading of Groveport and Steven Leading of West Lafayette; one daughter, Susan Leading of Buffalo, NY; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Travis) Collins, Richard Clark Leading and David C. (Courtney) Leading; four great-grandchildren, Austin, Gage, Madelynn and Charlotte.
Services will be Wednesday, November 7, at 1:30 p.m. at Addy Funeral Home, Newcomerstown with Rev. Bracken G. Foster officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Interim HealthCare Hospice of Coshocton 499 S.
