What does God expect? What does any father expect of his children? What pleases a father? Obedience! Remember the Garden of Eden? One little rule, do not eat of the Tree in the midst of the Garden and they did. When we disobey, its sin and punishment comes.
Able obeyed and Cain didn't, Hebrew 11:4. The high priests sons, Nadab and Abihu died before the Lord when they offered strange fire, Numbers 3:4. No one was to touch the Ark of God, the priests put holes through rings to move the Ark but they were not moving it properly and Uzzah reached out to keep it from falling and when he touched it, God smote him and he died, II Samuel 6:6,7.
The words of the preacher in Ecclesiastes say, "Fear God and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man."
Now we come to the New Testament and the church. Aren't you glad God doesn't punish immediately the way He did in the Old Testament?
We come to the simplicity that is in Christ. Jesus said, "True worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth." John 4:23,24. What is spirit? It comes from the heart. What is truth? It comes from God's word. You will find 5 acts of worship given to the New Testament church. One, they met to partake of the Lord's Supper on the first day of the week, Acts 20:7. Concerning the collection, on the first day of the week, they were to give as they had prospered, I Corinthians 16:1,2. These are to be done once every week. The other 3 acts are singing, "acapella," praying and teaching which can also be done during the week.
God has made worship very simple and easy compared to what they had to do in the Old Testament. We must be careful not to corrupt the simplicity that is in Christ, II Corinthians 11:3.
Worship should never be a performance or become entertainment. It is to be from our hearts in thankfulness to God for giving us Jesus, His Son, who said "If you love me, keep my commandments," John 14:15.
How do we become a Christian?
Is there a sinners prayer?
