Newcomerstown 11, Malvern 5
STRASBURG -- The Trojans hammered the Hornets on Saturday, 11-5, in opening round sectional play.
The game was tied 1-1 when Malvern plated three runs in the top of the third for a 4-1 lead. But Newcomerstown bats came alive staring in the fourth inning, as the team scored five runs, followed by two in the fifth and three more in the sixth frame.
The Trojans (15-10) clubbed 15 hits in the game with Jessie Rexroad nailing four singles to lead the way. Amber Gibson was right behind with three base hits. Brandi Crank and Kirsten Ritchie also laced two singles apiece.
Hannah Rexroad was credited with the win on the mound.
The Trojans will continue tournament action this Thursday against Tuscarawas Central Catholic at Strasburg park. That game starts at 5 p.m.

Div. III Sectional Tournament at Cambridge High School
CAMBRIDGE -- Ridgewood ousted Indian Valley from tournament play by shutting out the Braves 7-0 on Saturday.
The Generals (13-8) scored three runs in the second inning for all they would need to win and added four insurance runs later in the game.
Haley Kolmerten scattered four hits and struck out nine in picking up the complete game win. Sally Sharier cracked two doubles for the Generals (13-8) while Katie McVey lined three singles.
The Generals had 12 hits overall off losing pitcher Mindy Bober. The Braves bow out of the tournament with a 5-14 record.
Ridgewood will play this Thursday at Cambridge High School against the winner of Tuesday's game between Tusky Valley and Garaway.

WEST LAFAYETTE -- The Generals came away with a hard fought win after scoring a run in the 11th inning to defeat Hiland on Friday, 5-4.
Laura Dotson launched a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th to score Sally Sharier for the victory. Haley Kolmerten pitched a complete game to get the mound win. Kim Michael and Dotson both had two singles for the Generals (12-8, 7-6 IVC).
The Hawks (6-15, 3-10) were led at the plate by Meggan Spencer and Jessica Gerber, who both had two single.

MAGNOLIA -- The Lady Trojans could only muster one hit as they took an 8-0 loss on the chin to Sandy Valley on Thursday.
Starter Allysa Lancaster and relief pitcher Alyse Bowling put the hurt on Newcomerstown batters, as Krystin Raach's single in the fourth inning was the only hit for the Orange and Black.
The Cardinals (13-4, 8-2 IVC) got two runs in the first inning for all they would need, adding six more in the fourth and fifth innings. Hannah Rexroad took the mound loss for the Trojans (14-10, 7-6 IVC)

WEST LAFAYETTE -- The Pirates used two unearned runs, one in the fourth and one in the fifth, to come away with a 2-0 win over the Generals on Tuesday in IVC action.
Both pitchers gave up only four hits but it was Maria Koshmider of Garaway (13-6, 10-3 IVC) who came away the winner. Haley Kolmerten of Ridgewood (11-8, 6-6 IVC) took the loss.
Laura Dotson cracked a double and single for the Generals while Kari Sparling had two base hits for the Pirates.

Newcomerstown 5, Malvern 4
MALVERN -- After building a 5-1 lead, the Trojans held off the Hornets to escape with a 5-4 Inter-Valley Conference win on the road Tuesday.
Newcomerstown (14-9, 7-5 IVC) jumped in front scoring a pair of runs the first inning, but Malvern answered with one in the bottom of the first. The Trojans then added three more runs in the fourth frame to post the 5-1 edge and appeared to be coasting to the win. Malvern had other thoughts and mounted a three-run comeback in the sixth, coming up just short.
Martina Triplett took the pitching win with four strikeouts and no walks while Taylor Zeiger was the loser, fanning one and giving up two walks.
Krystin Raach smacked a triple in the fourth inning, driving in three runs while also scoring three times to lead Newcomerstown. Jessie Rexroad and Kirstin Ritchie each added a pair of singles with Rexroad scoring twice. Chelsea Fenton had a single, scored, and stole two bases.
Morgan McKinney paced the Lady Hornets (8-11, 2-8 IVC) with a double and single.

The Trojans picked up their 13th victory of the season Monday, dropping rival Ridgewood, 6-2, in Inter-Valley Conference play.
Hannah Rexroad struck out three in seven innings to get the win for Newcomerstown (13-9, 6-5 IVC). Haley Kolmerten fanned five in a losing effort for Ridgewood.
Kirstin Ritchie led the Trojans (13-9, 6-5 IVC) with three singles while Amber Gibson came through with a two-run single. Laura Dotson and Sally Sharier each had an RBI single for Ridgewood.

GNADENHUTTEN -- The Braves fell in extra innings to the Trojans on Monday in Principals Athletic Conference action by a 3-1 score.
The teams were tied 1-1 when Tusky Valley (6-10, 5-3 PAC) finally broke the ice with two runs in the top of the ninth.
Indian Valley could only muster two hits against winning pitcher, Rachel Gritzan. Mindy Bober took the mound loss for the Braves (4-13, 4-6 PAC). She gave up 10 hits but mowed down 14 batters with strikeouts.
