Newcomerstown to kick-off fall season with Meet the Team and hog roast
The Newcomerstown Schools and Athletic Booster Club will kick-off the fall sports season Saturday, Aug. 15 at Lee Stadium with the annual Meet the Team program, a hog roast and other special activities. The Trojan football team host Shenandoah in a scrimmage that morning at 10 a.m. High school football players will be introduced just prior to the start of the scrimmage. Following the scrimmage, all other high school and middle school student-athletes and band members will be introduced. The Meet the Team activities are scheduled to begin at about 11:45 a.m.
Meanwhile, the Newcomerstown Athletic Boosters will have a hog roast at the stadium from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The meals are just $8 each and include the meat, baked beans, salad, roll, dessert and drink. Kids meals consisting of a hot dog, applesauce, cookie and drink will also be available for just $3. All proceeds from the hog roast benefit the Athletic Boosters. During the scrimmage, the booster club will also conduct a yard sale of old Newcomerstown Trojan clothing and athletic gear leftover from previous years.
After the scrimmage, an open house will take place in the high school locker room area to give the public a chance to see the locker room improvements completed during the summer. The improvement work was completed as the first phase of the Restore the Pride campaign.
"I want to thank all the parents, coaches, and donors who worked so hard to improve the locker rooms," said Athletic Director Matt Ritzert. "We've made a lot of progress in the past year and are looking forward to continuing the work during the coming year. We want to invite everyone to see the work that's been done and learn more about our future plans."
