GNADENHUTTEN -- Action on the hardwood is coming to and end, and one of the final games of the season was the 2013 District 5 All-Star Basketball Games at Indian Valley High School on Friday.
The East boys won a 115-111 thriller while the West girls registered a blowout by a 117-61 victory.
In the boys' game, Steubenville's Periogn West and Indian Creek's Alex Young had 19 points apiece to lead the East assault. Carrollton's Stephen Ericksen scored 15 points for the winners and Warrior teammate Andrew Collins and Malvern's Max Kapron each added 12, while Conotton Valley's Brandon Bailey chipped in 10.
Newcomerstown senior Hunter Snearey enjoyed a solid performance with 17 points for the West, with Tyler Walter of Garaway leading the way with a 22-point night. Claymont's Blake Albaugh and Dover's Mason Mamarella each added 15 and senior Zak Keesee of Ridgewood also reached double figures with 12 points as did Indian Valley's Jamie MacAdam with 11 markers.
The West boys led 24-20 at the end of the first quarter and 54-49 at the half, but the East took an 87-85 advantage going to the final frame.
In the girls' game, the 117 points put up by the West was the most scored by a girls' team in the event.
Dover's Sara Dummermuth scored 15 points to lead the West. Garaway's Anya Misko and River View's Sami Straits each tallied 13, while Hiland's Kendra Schlabach and Jasmine Goings had 12 points apiece.
Seniors Allie Hinton of Newcomerstown and Ridgewood's Kelsey Miller had 11 points each for the East. East Liverpool's Mary Davis led the East and all scorers as she tallied 18 points. Edison's Molly McCoy scored 11 while Mackenzie Columbo and West Holmes' Rachelle Morrison both had 10.
