MIDVALE -- Host Indian Valley jumped out to a 15-0 lead the opening quarter and put points on the board in every frame to outdistance the rival Claymont Mustangs 36-24 on Friday night.
Jake Davis got the Braves started in the opening round with a five-yard touchdown run and Konnor Cool added the point after kick.
Before the first frame was over, Brady Byers hauled in a 30-yard scoring aerial from Logan Ryan and then Byers ran in the two-point conversion to spot the hosts to the early 15-0 advantage.
Claymont cut into the difference in the second frame with Hunter Striker on the receiving end of a 32-yard Tim Zurcher touchdown strike and Zurcher added the two-point conversion with a run to cut the margin to 15-8.
Indian Valley (2-0) padded the lead before halftime with a second scoring run by Davis, this time a three-yard plunge and the Cool boot provided the hosts a 22-8 spread at the intermission.
Ryan ripped off a 76-yard TD scamper in the third quarter and Cool again split the uprights to up the Braves' lead to 29-8, but Claymont wasn't finished.
Keaton Herron scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns, the first on a three-yard burst and the second a five-yard scamper. Zurcher ran for two following the first Herron TD and Herron capped off the second with the two-point conversion run to pull the Mustangs within five at 29-24 with time remaining in the final round.
Davis sealed the deal with his third scoring run of the night, a one-yard dive, and the Cool PAT provided the 36-24 final.
Indian Valley amassed 324 yards on the ground on 44 plays and two players connected on 4-of-5 passes for an additional 87 yards as the Braves garnered 18 first downs but coughed the ball up three times to Claymont on fumbles.
Davis and Ryan provided the ground assault with Davis gaining 203 yards on 32 carries and Ryan added 111 yards on just five totes. Ryan was 2-of-2 passing for 38 yards and Byers was also a perfect 2-of-2 for 49 yards. Byers also had two catches for 38 yards and Ross Love added one catch for 35 yards.
Claymont garnered 121 yards rushing on 40 tries picking up 14 first downs and the quarterback Zurcher completed 8-of-20 passes for 163 yards and was picked off once by Brady Cotemire. Herron was the leading ground gainer for the Mustangs (0-2) picking up 63 yards on 20 carries. Jonathen Gray collected six receptions for 80 yards to lead the receiver corps.
