WARSAW -- Host River View picked up a clean sweep in cross country action with Newcomerstown and Ridgewood.

On the boys' side the Black Bears took first with a score of 20, followed by the Trojans with 50 and the Generals with 109.

Corey Miller of River View took first place with a time of 17:35, with teammate Steven Scheetz second (17:49). Nate Marinucci (17:46) of Newcomerstown finished third with Andy Parsons of River View (18:27), and the Trojans' Garrett Mozena (18:34) rounding out the top five.

Other runners for NHS were Daniel Lovrinic 13th, 20:28; Collen Mozena 14th , 20:46 and Stephen Chilensky 15th, 21:11.

Ridgewood runners included Travis Vickers 8th, 18:58; Dakota Crites 19th, 21:28; Aj Allman 21st, 22:01; Austin Ellis 24th, 22:25; Jared Michael 27th, 23:41; Nathan Schwartz 28th, 24:21 and Jessie Olinger in 29th with a time of 24:41.

Although there were no team scores for the girls' Jessica McCoun of Ridgewood placed first with a time of 21:40 and Tea Boyer also of Ridgewood finished 10th with a time of 29:16.

MAGNOLIA -- Newcomerstown and Ridgewood took part in the Sandy Valley Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, both competing in the small school division.

Tuslaw (42) picked up the win, Western Reserve (71) was the runner-up and Sandy Valley (115) finished third. The Generals placed 10th as a team with 243 points.

Luke Myers of Strasburg paced the pack, picking up the win with a time of 17:12.

Ridgewood was led by Travis Vickers in 52nd pace in 20:29; A.J. Allman and Dakota Crites came across the line next for the Generals in 68th and 70th place in 21:07 and 21:11 respectively.

Other runners for Ridgewood was Jared Micheal, 91st place (23:32); Austin Ellis in 92nd (23:44); Nathan Schwartz crossed the line in 96th (23:57) and Jesse Olinger was 98th (24:45).

Although Newcomertown didn't have enough runners for a team score, Nate Marinucci led the way with a sixth place finish with a time of 18:17.

Garret Mozena was next for the Trojans in 27th place (19:23); Daniel Lovrinic was next in 56th (20:36) and Collen Mozena was 77th (21:29).

On the girls' side, Tuslaw picked up the win with 23 points; Sandy Valley (55) finished runner-up and East Canton (63) rounded out the top three.

Bethany Koons of Tuslaw picked up the win with a time of 20:54.

Ridgewood's Jessica McCoun finished in fifth in 21:26. Other runners for the Lady Generals were Taylor Danley in 25th (24:05) and Tea Bover in 65th (30:02).

LANCASTER -- The Indian Valley High cross-country squads took part in the prestigious Bob Reall-Lancaster Invitational on Saturday.

Competing in the Division II races, the boys' team finished 11th in the 26-school field. The Lady Braves placed 12th in a 23-school field.

The D-II boys' team event was won by Peninsula Woodridge, who's winning total of 99 points was 50 clear of runner-up Sheridan. Other area teams and their scores showed the following : 4. River View (191), 11. Indian Valley (272), 15. Claymont (326), 17. St. Clairsville (430).

Sheridan's Matt Bromley won the 5-K race with a time of 16:48.6.

The best Indian Valley effort was turned in by Trevor Ault, who placed 26th out of 171 runners with a time of 17:50.8. The rest of the Braves and their times were as follows : Evan Menafee (18:07.1), Cody Booth (18:16.1), Mitchell Giffen (19:02.1), Collin Border (19:41.8), Brandon Leggett (19:58.2).

Woodridge also captured the D-II girls' team title, eking out a narrow, two-point win over runner-up Granville 77-79. Athens was a relatively distant third with 109 points.

Area teams and their scores showed the following : 4. Claymont (164), 12. Indian Valley (300), 15. River View (387), 17. St. Clairsville (445).

Columbus Hartey's Emily Franz toured the 5-K layout in a winning time of 19:41.2

The leading Lady Brave was Shannon Regula, who's 21:03.1 was good for 25th out of 155 runners.

The other Lady Braves and their times were as follows : Tawney Ault (21:41.8), Celina Mayforth (22:12.7), Lauren Long (24:23.5), Alexis Pasquinelli (24:23.8), Heidi Miller (26:14.7).
