MAGNOLIA -- Host Sandy Valley High remained unbeaten in the Inter-Valley Conference by holding of Ridgewood by a slim 14-13 margin on Friday night.

The Cardinals maintained a stranglehold on first place with a perfect 5-0 mark in IVC play and 5-3 overall, while Ridgewood slips to 2-3 in IVC action and 4-4 overall.

The Generals got on the board first with a 10-play scoring drive capped by Zach Donley with a six-yard run early in the second quarter for a 7-0 lead.

Sandy Valley evened the contest at 7-7 right before the halftime intermission, with Lucas Dieffenbaugher diving in from the one-yard line with seven seconds left on the clock.

The Cardinals took the lead early in the fourth quarter at 14-7 when Dieffenbaugher connected with Nate Shepler on a 34-yard touchdown pass with just over 10 minutes left in the game.

Ridgewood came up with a big drive to make things interesting down the stretch.

RHS took over at its 26-yard line with 5:58 left in the game and promptly reeled off a 12 play, 74-yard drive with Donley scoring his second TD of the night with a four-yard run to the end zone with just 22 seconds left to play.

Ridgewood opted to go for the win and the two-point conversion, with the Generals spreading the field and QB Ryan Lowe hit his receiver with a short toss but the Sandy Valley defense stopped him short of the goal line to preserve the 14-13 win.

Dieffenbacher finished with 137 yards on 26 carries for Sandy Valley.
