WEST LAFAYETTE -- Ridgewood High extended a rude welcome to the Inter-Valley Conference to the visiting East Canton on Friday night with a 25-13 victory.
The Generals jumped in front with a halfback pass, with Zach Donley hitting Alex Croston with a 62-yard toss at the 10:23 mark of the first period for a 8-0 lead after QB Ryan Lowe ran for the two-point conversion.
East Canton got on the scoreboard when Nick Johnson stepped in front of a Lowe pass for the INT and turned it into a "pick-six" with a 48-yard return at the 5:50 mark for an 8-6 RHS lead.
Donley extended the Generals' lead in the second stanza with a 12-yard TD run at the 7:28 mark to push the lead out to 15-6.
East Canton responded when Johnson hauled in a 28-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Clay Liberatore with 4:43 left before the halftime intermission to pull within 15-13.
Ridgewood then outscored East Canton by a 10-0 count in the second half to improve to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in IVC play while East Canton slips to 2-7 overall and 1-5 in its first year in the IVC.
Donley finished with 49 yards on 14 carries to pace the RHS ground game, with Billy Bailey adding 35 in four attempts and Tevis Whitt contributed 25 yards on four totes.
Lowe hit on just 2-of-9 passing attempts for 56 yards with a pair of interceptions for Ridgewood.
Liberatore enjoyed a big passing night, connecting on 11-of-21 passes for 199 yards, with Buzzy Faheem, Zach VanVoorhis and Scott Lewis each hauling in three receptions for the Hornets.
The Ridgewood 'Silver Hammer' defense held the Hornets' ground game to just 17 yards in 32 attempts.
